This site originally served to inform Boxford residents about the Rt. 133 'Rehabilitation' plan, which would have constructed a roundabout in the center of the West Village and taken land from all residents living on Washington street.  The roundabout alone would have destroyed the historic cross road at the center of the West Village, encroached on the historic Document Center, demolished part of the Civil War Monument, and threatened Lincoln Hall.

At their 29th of August,  2022 meeting,

The Select Board voted unanimously to abandon the Route 133 ‘Rehabilitation’ Plan.

Your support and votes passed Article 25 at the May Town Meeting prohibiting the proposed roundabout at the Washington & Main Intersection. Contrary to what the Select Board’s attorney said, this was a binding vote from Town Meeting, the town’s Legislative Body.

 

While Article 26 did not pass, it allowed us to make known the hidden details about the State-run ‘rehabilitation’ of Route 133/Washington St. that would have resulted in widening of the road, more widening for bike paths, and, eventually, a higher speed limit. As the 'rehabilitation' moved through West Boxford Village, lawns, fences, trees and other structures would have been destroyed; Paisley’s and Benson’s businesses would have been threatened by loss of frontage; and permanent easements and takings from Village residents would have occurred.

 

You were told this wouldn’t happen.

The publicly available plans for the 'rehabilitation' demonstrated that this would happen.

Your action at the May 2022 Boxford Annual Town Meeting prevented this from happening.
